Royston Maldoom - Schirmherr der lis:sanga dance company

Brief vom April 2010

I am pleased to recommend to all interested in high quality dance performance the lis:sanga dance company. Lis:sanga represents not only contemporary dance of a very high artistic standard but is a rare example of what can be achieved by a community dance company under the direction of an experienced professional choreographer.

Lis:sanga is noted not only for its high dance and choreographic quality but as an excellent example of integration between people of different abilities, ages, social, and cultural backgrounds.

Their new work 'Passport' is a thought provoking work, dealing with one of the major European issues of our time - the problems facing refugees and young unnacompanied asylum seekers, and should be seen by the widest possible audience from young people, teachers, parents and politicians and other artists . With this work choreographer Lenah Strohmaier uses her artistic vision and experience to give people a voice, on issues that concern them most, with choreography that is techniacally demanding, innovative, dynamic and at times breathtaking.

It is for these reasons that I was pleased to invite lis:sanga to open the public book reading of my autobiography at the Radial System,  Berlin on the 11th of March this year. Their short excerpt from 'Passport' was very enthusiastically received by the public, with sustained applause and standing ovation and comments afterwards clearly reflected the audience amazement at the sheer professionalism of this talented Berlin dance company.

Yours sincerely

Brief vom Juli 2009

As you know I am a strong supporter of lis:sanga´s work, particularly following the dance groups participation in my recent production of the Bartok Concerto for Orchestra with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmoniker at the Trepotw arena.
I am pleased to see initiatives such as yours, especially those that take place in the community, outside the formal education structure.
There are far too few projects of this nature in Germany cater for young people wishing to engage with dance at a high level, from mainstream as well as marginalised sectors of society. […]

I will follow your progress with interest and look forward to the premier of your new production,

yours sincerely,

Royston K. Maldoom
